JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), the Unit Secretary performs clerk duties at the Psych Unit Nursing Station, while functioning as the focal communication source. Other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualification(s):

  • Skills Specific to Communications – (i.e. Telephone Functions, Phone Etiquette, Call Light System, White Boards, Medical Terminology, Hospital paging system, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Patients and Guests – (i.e. Greeting, Patient Requests, Director Visitors, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Emergencies – (i.e. Spills, Codes, Reporting Hazards)

  • Skills Specific to General Duties – (i.e. Maintain Files, Stock Supplies, Patient Privacy Precautions, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Patient Charts – (i.e. Assemble, Maintain and Disassemble Charts, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Patient Disposition – (i.e. Admitting, Transfer, Discharge, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Order Management – (i.e. Physician Orders, Discharge Orders, Lab Order Entry, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Patient Safety – (i.e., Patient Identification, Universal Protocol, etc.)

  • Skills Specific to Infection Control Standards, Protocols, and Expectations – (i.e. Hand Hygiene, etc.)

  • Knowledge and Skills Specific to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – (i.e. Importance, Identification, Equipment)

  • Performs patient care activities within scope of practice.

  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.

  • Demonstrates leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills.

  • Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with multiple patients, family members, etc.

  • Demonstrates ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Meets department dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Is conscientious in regard to personal
    hygiene.

  • Wears ID badge clearly visible above the waist.

  • Completes annual educational requirements.

  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.

  • Maintains current job required licenses and certifications

  • Attends committee, management, and other hospital meetings, as appropriate.

  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the Medical Center.

  • Pursues continuing education and participates in professional and community activities.

  • Demonstrated agent for change and process improvement.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology highly desired.

  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Certifications required within first ninety (90) days of hire.
